The English Department has a vibrant and active community of students. Below are just a few of the department's student activities and publications:


Quarterly West 

Recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, this literary journal is edited by graduate students
in the Creative Writing Program and publishes fiction, poetry, non-fiction and reviews.

The Working Dog

A series of readings arranged by and featuring graduate student writers.

The Graduate Student Conference 

An interdisciplinary conference organized by graduate students representing all the departments in the College of Humanities. The conference has featured Michael Taussig, Marjorie Garber, and Phillipa Levine among its keynote speakers.

The Graduate Student Advisory Committee 

Represents the interests of the graduate student in matters of policy and curriculum. Contact the current GSAC president Ryan Siemers for further information and upcoming activities.
